What happens before a life begins. A song of the things animals do after the cold of winter subsides. I saw a bunch of gar (prehistoric vicious fish) rolling around together in the shallows of the Chickahominy River one day - rapturous, slimy, completely unaware of any danger from above. I thought, this needs to be in a song, and so it was.
lyrics
Gar fish rolling in the marsh
Why do you roll all day?
I roll with my girl, gonna fill this world
With little gar fish at play
Spring time, spring time
Sunny days and sweet sweet air
(Birds and bees and the buds in the trees)
(Thunderstorms and the winds are warm)
Spring time, spring time feelin
Oh to live like an animal is soo appealing.
Little grey squirrel in a tree
Why do you leap and chatter?
I'll chase my mate, and seal her fate
To spend her spring gettin fatter
Rooster crowing in the yard
Preen your comb and waddle
I look the part to win the hearts
All the little hens will follow.
Cricket singing in my room
Why do you sing and fiddle?
I play in the dark with loons and larks
Gonna get myself a little
Ken Landreth is one of my favorite banjo players of all time. This whole album is amazing! Makes me miss those hot sunny days in the Mt. Airy flatlands watching these guys shred. altacke
